CO-Learning

CO-Learning is an activating teaching method within Test-Correct where students review each other’s open answers in a double-anonymized way. With CO-Learning you work smart and effectively to increase learning outcomes, while spending less time on grading as a teacher.

What is CO-Learning?

CO-Learning is Test-Correct’s peer review method: students grade each other’s tests, which both saves grading time and supports their learning process.

Students do not see whose answer they are reviewing and remain anonymous themselves. This ensures reliable assessments, increases learning outcomes and activates students in a simple and effective way. At the same time, the teacher saves a lot of grading work and formative assessment becomes directly applicable in daily practice.

How does CO-Learning work?

1
The teacher discusses the answer model

The teacher shows the question and the answer model on the smartboard and explains how points are awarded. This explanation forms the basis for students to understand what makes a good answer and how to evaluate it.

2
Students assess each other’s answers

While the answer model is visible on the smartboard, students are anonymously assigned a peer’s answer to assess.

  • They compare the answer with the model, assign points and think critically about the question and the grading process.
  • After the first answer, a second anonymous answer to the same question follows immediately.
3
Smart visual triggers keep students engaged

Students’ progress is visible on the smartboard through colored dots:

  • Grey: No answers assessed yet
  • Orange: One answer assessed
  • Green: Two answers assessed

These visual triggers keep students sharp and actively involved in the review process.

4
Less grading work for the teacher

Because each answer is double-anonymized and reviewed by two different students, a reliable score is created that almost always matches the teacher’s judgment. This means the teacher no longer has to check every answer manually, saving a significant amount of time. That time can instead be used for guidance, feedback and deepening of the subject matter.

The benefits of CO-Learning

1) Increased learning outcomes through activation

Students actively engage with the material by thinking critically, comparing answers and giving feedback. Using the answer model strengthens their understanding and insights, while visual triggers keep them motivated.

2) Less grading work for the teacher

Each answer is independently reviewed twice by students, ensuring a reliable score. This saves the teacher a lot of time and allows them to focus on guiding and deepening the learning process.

3) A powerful tool for formative assessment

CO-Learning makes formative assessment easy to apply:

  • Students give and receive direct feedback.
  • The teacher gains insight into student performance and where extra attention is needed.
  • The interaction throughout the process fosters deeper learning and increases engagement of all students.
